TRAINING - DRIVING TIPS 2/17

The POM routine (Prepare Observe Move)

Prepare

This is getting the vehicle ready and preparing to pull away, when the road is clear. Clutch down, hold it down, select first gear, set the gas pedal, (about 1500-2000 rpm) then bring the clutch up slowly to the biting point, this should be about half way up the clutch travel. You will hear the revs drop slightly and you may feel the rear of the car go down slightly. (If the rear goes down a lot your clutch pedal is too high,) This will cause the car to serge forward when you release the handbrake. Correct this by pushing the clutch pedal back down slightly. You should feel the rear rise again. Have the Handbrake ready to release in your left hand and your right hand on the wheel.
